Human Services:

At Southern Wesleyan University, the Social Sciences Division offers a B.Sc. degree with a major in Human Services.

The Human Services degree is for people who are interested in working with or helping others (e.g., the homeless, people with disabilities, children or adolescents) in community organizations (e.g., halfway houses, non-profit or non-governmental organizations, Social Services, or mental health agencies). Human services workers may organize and lead group activities, assist clients in need of counseling or crisis intervention, help clients become involved in their own well-being , assist adults who need supervision with personal hygiene and daily living skills or administer a food bank or emergency fuel program.

The Occupational Outlook Handbook states that employment of human and social service workers is expected to grow much faster than average through the year 2014 – this field is among the most rapidly growing occupations. Job opportunities for human service workers are expected to be excellent, particularly for applicants with appropriate postsecondary education.

Internships and Practicum

The goal of the practicum program is to give students the opportunity to experience a real world setting in the workplace. Students are able to use their skills while gaining valuable experience in a professional setting.
